For centuries Camp de Fiori was the site for public executions. On February 17, 1600, Bruno Giordano was burned at the stake by the Roman Inquisition for heresy. Giordano was an Italian Dominican Friar, philosopher, mathematician and astronomer. A domineering statue stands in the middle the piazza marking the exact spot of his death.
