Via Sacra Rome

The Via Sacra or Sacred Way is the main street that runs through the heart of ancient Rome. Via Sacra leads from the top of the Capitoline Hill, linking through some of the most important religious sites of the Forum to the Colosseum. Via Sacra also borders the Palatine, Circus Maximus, and the Caracalla's Baths.
Via Sacra was the road where all major functions happened in the history of the city. The triumphs of victorious generals in horse-drawn chariots came down this road. Many solemn religious processions and festivities also took this route.
Via Sacra Rome is lined with all its temples, government buildings and triumphal arches. The Sacred Way was the center of power, justice and religion. And everyday Romans going about their daily lives buying and selling products.
Walking through today's ruins, one could only imagine how it was during the Roman times. Make sure you have on a good pair of walking shoes. The large stone pavement is beautiful, however it is very hard and uncomfortable to walk on. It will be very difficult to push a stroller along Via Sacra. If you are visiting during summer time, wear a hat and keep a water bottle with you to stay cool.
For all you history lovers there is history in every direction you turn. This is surely the heart and soul of ancient Rome and should not be missed.
