Piazza Venezia Rome

Piazza Venezia is a major key hub of Rome, Italy. It is a great place to see and easy access to get to many sights that include Capital Hill, the Roman Forum and the Colosseum.

It is situated in front of the impressive monument of King Vittorio Emmanuel II. This enormous white marble monument was built as a tribute to the first king of Italy Victor Emmanuel II. This beautiful monument is so empowering and impressive. This building is also known as the wedding cake due to its shape. Giuseppe Sacconi designed it in 1885; it was inaugurated in 1911 and finished in 1935. There is no fee entrance for the flag museum and a military museum. You can also see guards protecting the tomb of the unknown soldier. You can take the elevator for 7 euros to the very top and look out over this wonderful city. When you get to the terrace it is a terrific opportunity to take some pictures of this incredible panoramic view of Rome.

Piazza Venezia Rome is a large sunny square, with sculptures and statues galore in a magnificent setting. It was also the location where supporters of Mussolini would get together for political rallies. On one side of the piazza is the famous balcony of the Palazzo Venezia where Mussolini declared war on Britain.

There are plenty of taxis and city buses that go through here. You can also take a tour with the horse and buggy if you choose.

You do need to be careful of the crazy traffic circle around the piazza. It’s loud, a little busy and cars are everywhere. There are a few restaurants, cafés and shops all around this particular area.

I enjoyed visiting Piazza Venezia at nighttime. It was beautiful with the white monument glowing in the light from the burning torches and spotlights. Excellent place to people watch and take in the ambience of Rome.

Remember Piazza Venezia is a good focal point for getting around the city. One side is via del Teatro Marcello; it will bring you to the base of the Capitoline Hill. The other side is Via dei Fori Imperiali that leads to the Coliseum and the Forum.
