Il Desco Restaurant Florence
Il Desco is situated on the main Via Cavour, only steps from the Duomo and other major attractions in the area.
We had a very nice lunch here. The restaurant is on the small side with a limited but interesting menu. The food was very good and fresh. Everything is organic and seasonal. The produce comes from the owner’s farm and their dishes display this with a focus on vegetables.
When we entered Il Desco we were greeted with a wide, genuine smile from Shams. He is the friendly gentleman running Il Desco. You can see he has a passion for food and was most pleasant and engaging. Our waiter was professional and quite charming. Everybody was super friendly and attentive to refilling wine and water glasses as needed.
We had lunch in their lovely courtyard. While we waited for our food they served us lightly toasted bread with their house-made olive oil. They actually make their own olive oil. It was magnificent.
We shared a nice caprese salad. It was nothing fancy, however I can say it was the best caprese salad I've ever had. I had the freshly prepared spaghetti on chickpeas with balsamic. It was very creamy and absolutely wonderful. The rest of the family had the lunch specials of the day. The specials are fresh and everything has a little twist. My son really enjoyed the pasta with snow peas, cherry tomatoes and bacon. He has tried to make this at home, but unfortunately he can’t make it as good. My daughter said her pasta with goat cheese and asparagus was lovely. My wife had the vegetarian lasagna with cabbage. Definitely a combination I would not think to put together, but she thought it was terrific.
The mouth-watering cheesecake with the strawberries was also delicious and the wine selection is great. To our surprise we were given complementary Limoncello at the end. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It had a nice amount of sweetness and natural lemon flavor.
Il Desco is very nicely decorated and the prices are reasonable. I think it is worth a visit. They only open for lunch and early evening. So go for lunch and enjoy a fresh, healthy, and delicious meal. You will enjoy the dining experience and it may become one of your favorites. I know if we ever go back to Florence, we definitely be visiting Il Desco again.
