Gusta Pizza Florence Italy

Gusta Pizza Florence Italy

Gusta Pizza is located in Florence, Italy. It is located real close to Pitti Palace and Ponte Vecchio.

My family and I decided to get some lunch after visiting Church of Santo Spirito. This Basilica has the famous wooden crucifix that Michelangelo made when he was only 17 years old. A tourist that we met that day recommended that we go and try Gusta Pizza.

Gusta Pizza, Gusta Panini and Gusta Osteria are all owned by the same family. All three places serve great food at a fair price. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They speak and understand English, which makes it an easy transaction. Pay attention to which entrance you walk in. One entrance has a crowd of people waiting for their number to be called. You want the other entrance. This is where you order. It  has the register where you pay and they give your number.

Gusta Pizza make Napoleton-style pizza. It has a thick crust and a thin center. They have a selection of about ten pizzas. You get to watch your pizza be freshly prepared. You can enjoy watching the guys in action. Chef presses the dough out. Toss up your pizza high in the air. Sauce and toppings are added. Then the pizza is placed in the rustic wood fired oven. You eat the pizza off of paper plates with plastic utensils. But who cares. You're there for the food. It's delicious.

They are made as personal size pizzas. We ordered four of them. Pizza was so fresh. We swapped out a slice with each others. My favorite was the Calabrese pizza. Tomato, basil, mozzarella and spicy salami. We also had the Napoli. Anchovies, tomato, mozzarella, oregano, capers and olive oil drizzled on top. Margherita pizza is a classic. Basil was sweet. My second favorite was Gusta Pizza. Cherry fresh tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese all topped with arugula. Their sauce and cheese quality was top notch. Char was spot on.

Gusta Pizza isn't a place to lounge. It is small and super crowded.  Expect to wait for a table. You need to grab a seat when you see one at shared tables. Or take it to go like we did.  We went to the nearby beautiful square. Piazza Santo Spirito is home to local markets and antique fairs. Many locals spend their time with friends and family here.
