Giolitti Rome

Giolitti Rome

Giolitti is an old ice cream shop a stone throw away from the Pantheon. They actually have more shops around the city but this shop here is the oldest and most famous one. Just for your information, Giolitti has a castle placed just outside of the city named Decima castle, where events and special occasions for 30 to 300 people can be celebrated.

Many VIP's including John Travolta and Cameron Diaz have tasted their extraordinary specialties which is not only gelato. When you pass by and have a look in their showcase windows, you'll see cakes made out of dough, topped with fresh fruits, coffee or gelato, small pastries and fantastic black truffle ball shaped cakes which let your heart beat faster!

When walking through the door, fantasy becomes reality, the smell of the gelato and pastries drives up your nose and you really can't wait to try them all. Giolitti usually has a long line up, especially on Sundays and during the summer.

Giolitti opened in 1900 and has made many people happy with their foods since then. They are open every single day of the year for their customers from 7:00 am until 2:00 am in the morning.

You can either sit outside on one of their tables and people watch or sit inside in a very elegant surrounding. The interior of this fashionable shop has marble floor and walls and beautiful golden colored chandeliers hang from the ceiling. Large mirrors are placed against the walls to make the interior look even bigger. The tables are not too big and easily fit four people.

Giolitti sells many gelato flavors and each one of them tastes awesome. Fantasty and creativity is the slogan of this roman parlor. Just to give you an example; in 1960 Giolitti created a gelato cup which has a shape of the Olympic torch, dedicated to the Olympic games held in Rome. The most famous gelato cup dated back to an old 1920 recipe is called the Coppa Giolitti; made out of chocolate ice cream, custard and chilled zabaione which is a cream made out of egg yolks, sugar and sweet wine topped with cream and hazelnut shavings.
