    Vini e Vecchi Sapori is located is conveniently located next to the Uffizi Gallery.

    It is a family-owned (husband, wife and two sons) charming restaurant. It is authentic and the food is fabulous. We were greeted with a handwritten menu because their menu changes daily based on availability of fresh produce. The staff were friendly and wonderful, even the chef came by to say hello. The menu is limited but all dishes were high quality. We were able to translate some of the menu. However our waiter who spoke some English was more than willing to help us.

    We dined at Vini e Vecchi Sapori on my daughter’s birthday and had a delightful time. We had an appetizer, first courses and dessert. Everything was excellent.

    We had a prosciutto with buffalo mozzarella and caprese salad to start with. Both were incredible.

    The pasta with zucchini flower and cream sauce was both so fresh and flavorful. The pappardelle with duck ragu was by far one of the tastiest pasta dishes we had in Florence. The veal with polenta was tasty enough and seasoned just right. I had the osso bucco (braised oxtail). If you never had it, I suggest ordering it from here. It was so tender and the red wine gives this dish a wonderful flavor. It was one of the best-braised dishes I ever had.

    Our cappuccino was rich and frothy. The raspberry tiramisu they make was the perfect end to the perfect meal. It was an absolutely delicious spin on a classic is a very delicate dessert.

    After desert they gave us a complimentary after dinner drink called Grappa. It was very good and strong.

    The family really cares about their customers and they serve fresh and tasty food. If you want a good meal, at a reasonable price then you should visit Vini e Vecchi Sapori.

    Reservations in advance are a must. If we ever get the chance to go to Florence again, we would definitely eat here again. Our expectations were exceeded and then some.[/tab]

    Paoli Restaurant is just a short walk from the Uffizi Gallery. The authentic antique décor is most noticeable when you enter Paoli. It has beautiful frescoes painted on the walls. The vaulted stone ceilings adorned with large arches remind you of an old church. There is also a small outdoor dining area located in the back that is quite stunning. We ate at Paoli Restaurant on the recommendation of our hotel. They told us that we can expect typical Florentine style food at reasonable prices. Having said that the food was delicious and the service was impeccable.

    The staff handed menus in Italian and English. Our waiter was happy to speak to us in English and occasionally throw in some Italian words.

    We started with a bottle of their house wine and a couple appetizers. We chose bruschetta and duck carpaccio appetizer. The baguette slices were toasted perfectly. The sweet tomatoes and chopped red onions mixed in their olive oil were amazing. The duck carpaccio was the best I ever had; it was so buttery and flavorful. My family shared several pastas and other dishes. The ricotta-stuffed tortelloni in a truffle cream sauce was absolutely savory. The tortellini with cream and ham also hit the spot. The scallopini in a light lemon sauce with peas and bacon was superb. The veal chop (melted in your mouth) was excellent as were all the side dishes. The portions were generous and our dish selections were all memorable. We also enjoyed the house wine.

    The flavor of the desserts was divine. The chocolate pastry ball I was so rich and awesome. The homemade lemon tart with almonds was delicious. Absolutely perfect combination of sweet and tangy.

    I definitely recommend Paoli Restaurant and will eat there again the next time we go to Florence.[/tab]

    La Buca dell Orfeo is located close to the Uffizi Gallery so location is central.

    My family and I went to La Buca dell Orfeo for a late dinner. We enjoyed an authentic, hearty Tuscan cuisine in this little restaurant. This little place can be a bit of a challenge to find, but well worth it. After you go down some stairs you will enter a small room with some tables close to each other. I found it to be very cozy and pleasant. While we there it was filled with more locals than tourists, which I always think is a good sign. They have a menu they change daily and the choices are unique.

    La Buca dell Orfeo was perfect. Starting with the appetizers to desserts, all very good and well done. We had a terrific waiter who was patiently able to describe the Italian menu for us in English. He could not have been more accommodating. The appetizers we had were excellent on the waiter recommendation.

    My son and I had the steak for two that was outstanding. It was so juicy and tasty. It was crusty on the outside and rare in the center. The way a steak should be eaten. My wife said her swordfish carpaccio was exquisite, the tastiest and freshest she has ever had. My daughter had the pasta with porcini mushrooms and she said that was phenomenal. It was both fresh and very tasty. Our waiter also did a terrific job pairing our food with delicious wines.

    The espresso at La Buca dell Orfeo was the best we had in Florence. For dessert we all had the cherry infused cake that was remarkable.

    If you decide to eat at La Buca dell Orfeo. You will need to make reservations for dinner, as space is quite limited. They do not take credit cards.

    I found the prices to be reasonable price with terrific food and high service quality.  Highly recommended.[/tab]

    Golden View Open Bar is not that far from the Uffizi Gallery and has one of the best views in Florence. We were given a complimentary glass of prosecco on arrival and a table next to a huge picture window to enjoy the beautiful view. The view was spectacular. The window overlooked the Uffizi Gallery, Arno River and the Ponte Vecchio.

    The appetizers were great. We started with the Golden View salad and a platter. The salad had fresh mixed greens topped with pear with honey, cheese and chopped nuts. The platter consisted of prosciutto, meatballs, stuffed mushrooms, olives, crostino with an array of cheeses and more.

    We ordered a couple of their homemade pastas. The first one was the gnocchi with four-cheese sauce. The gorgonzola cheese offered a perfect tangy touch to the cheese sauce. The other was the tagliolini pasta with zucchini, fresh tomatoes and toasted chopped pine nuts. Both pasta dishes were fresh and delicious. Their seafood is incredible, in fact you cannot go wrong here. We ordered the swordfish and the seabass. They were both cooked to perfection and they were still very moist.

    After dinner we had nice strong espresso with our desserts. We had some hazelnut gelato and cannolis. The gelato was so smooth and flavorful. The cannolis were covered in powdered sugar. The ricotta cheese was sweet nice and creamy. The desserts were delicious as well.

    Golden View Open Bar interior is nice. It has a very modern European look with some amazing artwork. I thought the staff was friendly and attentive not intrusive. Which is a plus and made my family feel very welcome. And they can actually speak good English. They play live jazz in the evenings that added a special touch to the evening. The place is a bit pricey but the quality of the food, service and location makes every Euro you pay worth it.[/tab]

    Il Desco is situated on the main Via Cavour, only steps from the Duomo and other major attractions in the area.

    We had a very nice lunch here. The restaurant is on the small side with a limited but interesting menu. The food was very good and fresh. Everything is organic and seasonal. The produce comes from the owner’s farm and their dishes display this with a focus on vegetables.

    When we entered Il Desco we were greeted with a wide, genuine smile from Shams. He is the friendly gentleman running Il Desco. You can see he has a passion for food and was most pleasant and engaging. Our waiter was professional and quite charming. Everybody was super friendly and attentive to refilling wine and water glasses as needed.

    We had lunch in their lovely courtyard. While we waited for our food they served us lightly toasted bread with their house-made olive oil. They actually make their own olive oil. It was magnificent.

    We shared a nice caprese salad. It was nothing fancy, however I can say it was the best caprese salad I’ve ever had. I had the freshly prepared spaghetti on chickpeas with balsamic. It was very creamy and absolutely wonderful. The rest of the family had the lunch specials of the day. The specials are fresh and everything has a little twist. My son really enjoyed the pasta with snow peas, cherry tomatoes and bacon. He has tried to make this at home, but unfortunately he can’t make it as good. My daughter said her pasta with goat cheese and asparagus was lovely. My wife had the vegetarian lasagna with cabbage. Definitely a combination I would not think to put together, but she thought it was terrific.

    The mouth-watering cheesecake with the strawberries was also delicious and the wine selection is great. To our surprise we were given complementary Limoncello at the end. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It had a nice amount of sweetness and natural lemon flavor.

    Il Desco is very nicely decorated and the prices are reasonable. I think it is worth a visit. They only open for lunch and early evening. So go for lunch and enjoy a fresh, healthy, and delicious meal. You will enjoy the dining experience and it may become one of your favorites. I know if we ever go back to Florence, we definitely be visiting Il Desco again.[/tab]

    La Giostra

    La Giostra is a family run restaurant with photographs on the wall showing the father (with celebrities) who is the chef and his son, who was serving out table.

    The atmosphere in La Giostra is cozy and charming. It is bustling with a mix of locals and tourists. The staff was very friendly and attentive. When they sat us at our table, they handed us a complimentary glass of prosecco (Italian sparkling white wine). It was such a warm gesture and from there the night just kept getting better.

    After we placed our order, we were given a free platter of antipasto. It had Prosciutto di Parma, salami, roasted red peppers, olives, peperoncini, mushrooms, artichoke hearts and various cheeses. What a surprise La Giostra sends all of its customers, it was all very nice and very welcoming.

    The pear and ricotta ravioli was definitely different yet an extraordinary dish. The ravioli was soft and rich in flavor. You could taste the subtle flavors of both in the freshly made pasta without one overwhelming the other.

    We also had spicy seafood pasta. The pasta was cooked just right. The seafood was quite generous. It was very flavorful and it had just the right amount of spicy. We had an outstanding steak cooked with garlic and rosemary. One of the best steaks I have ever had, and I’ve had some amazing steaks. I really enjoyed the perfectly cooked oven-baked sea bass with grilled vegetables. It was very fresh, flaky and moist.

    The dessert was mouth watering. We had cheesecake with fruit toppings and complimentary limoncello. It was a perfect end to a terrific dinner.

    We enjoyed all our selections. We had a terrific time and felt it was a lively experience.

    If you decide to go, you should make reservations ahead of time unless you’re willing to wait at an hour or so.

    Zio Gigi Restaurant is located on a quiet side street just a block from the Duomo.

    It isn’t touristy and I found a lot of locals dining there, which made it all the better. It is a very warm and lively restaurant that extends from the front room to the back.

    The serving staff was terrific. They spoke English and they were very engaging and attentive. The food was very tasty, came in good portion sizes at reasonable prices.

    My family started with the house antipasto and a very large plate of mussels. Both were amazing. The mussels literally melted in your mouth. When we were done with it, everybody took his or her bread to soak up the delicious broth. For dinner we all ordered different plates and we all sampled a little bit of each. The portions were so large and each was exceptional.

    The Florentine-style steak was both delicious and a beautifully cooked piece of tender steak. It came with a side spinach and cannellini beans. The risotto with zucchini and shrimp was astounding. The salmon penne pasta was creamy and rich. Our waitress suggested to me that I try the pappardelle with wild boar sauce. It was immersed in a sauce rich with a red wine aftertaste. I am so happy that I listened to her. It was unbelievable.

    The house wine was quite nice and affordable.

    Then there’s dessert. We all had cappuccinos and shared cream puffs with chocolate sauce. Both were superb.

    The highlight at Zio Gigi Restaurant was the owner. He was very friendly and sang to us in Italian. He came around to the tables and gave complimentary limoncello after dinner. This is was a great way to experience Italian family style restaurant and food. It’s unique and entertaining.

    I would definitely recommend Zio Gigi Restaurant and would return on a future trip to Florence. [/tab]

    Grom Gelato Florence

    Grom is located about block from the Duomo off one of the side streets.  It is easy to miss as it maintains a very simple exterior. If you see a long line that goes around the corner of a building, you most likely have found Grom. But remember when you see a long line in Italy, you know that’s where the best of something is and it is worth the wait. You don’t have to worry too much because the line moves fairly quickly. This will give you an opportunity to view the Duomo while the line cuts down.

    Grom is a chain, but don’t let that discourage you. They offer a high quality product and have a nice variety of flavors, so they will have something you like.

    The store was spotless. The friendly staff served their famous gelato from covered stainless steel tubs that are covered and kept in properly cooled areas.

    Without the artificial coloring and additives, Grom provides and incredible gelato experience with their jaw-dropping flavors and perfect consistency. The gelato is creamy but not heavy. All the flavors are pronounced and it just tastes so wholesome. You can taste the quality and the ingredients are fresh and seasonal. So don’t expect to get strawberry in after the summer.

    I went to Grom several times while in Florence and each time was delicious. The first time I tried coffee flavor with biscotti bits and pistachio with tiny bits of nuts in it with great flavors. The coffee flavor was just the perfect blend of bitter and sweet without being too rich. The second time I tried Crema di Grom. It is their signature flavor and has a vanilla cream flavor. It was excellent. The third time I had the dark chocolate and egg cream. I know it sounds a little questionable, but honestly the flavor combination was amazing.

    I will stop short of suggesting any specific flavor. It really doesn’t matter what flavor you choose, because I know it will be awesome.

    Definitely make a stop at Grom while you’re in Florence. After ordering your gelato find a bench near the Duomo for a fabulous Florentine experience.[/tab]

    Alle Murate is located near the Duomo.  This restaurant has personality, charm and character.

    If you enjoy food prepared with excellent ingredients and served in an elegant manner, then having dinner at Alle Murate will be a great experience. The chef is this lovely lady and everything she prepares is terrific.

    When we were seated at our table we were immediately given a menu and a complimentary glass of Prosecco. The menu at Alle Murate changes daily. They offer new variations of classical Tuscan dishes depending on what the chef can get at the local market. They do have several signature dishes for which they’re most well known.

    The beef tartare was a great start. It came out with four ingredients. Beef tartare, mini crepes, fresh chopped oregano and their house mayo.

    The sea bass was delicious; the delicate fish was cooked to perfection. The pigeon was superb. It consisted of rich flavor and smooth texture. Perfectly pink breast, foie gras style liver on toasted baguette, and stuffed leg.

    Then there’s dessert. We had a cheesecake and the chocolate cake with the orange sorbet, both was to die for.

    Alle Murate may be one of the most beautiful restaurants in Florence. It is actually a museum as well. The interior inside is magnificent with its ancient walls and ceilings decorated with 14th century frescos including Dante’s original portrait. (It is said to be the oldest one in existence.) Our waiter gave us a tour of the whole restaurant explaining the art and history of the building.

    We also had a chance to visit the Roman ruins in the basement. It is an archeological excavation site all to its own. The Plexiglas floors will allow you to see the remnants of ancient days. The artifacts that were found in the dig below are arranged throughout the three floors of Alle Murate.

    The food and the atmosphere were excellent. The service was also great. They spoke English and I found them to be friendly and attentive.

    Alle Murate is a bit pricey, but eminently worth the exquisite dining experience. Come here when you want to splurge and have a great time. It is the perfect venue for an intimate dinner for two. Restaurant was full when we were there. I recommended making a reservation if you plan on going. It is definitely worth a visit if you’re in Florence.[/tab]

    Cafe Duomo is situated right next to the Duomo. Tired after a busy morning of touring and climbing up the Duomo to the dome my family and I decided to stop here for lunch.

    Cafe Duomo has an inside and outside seating area. We chose to sit outside which had a cooling mist. The view was perfect. The menu is extensive and the prices are very reasonable.

    I had the special of the day, which was lasagna. It was excellent and authentic. We also ordered the spaghetti carbonara. It tasted awesome with a delicious creamy sauce. The pesto, tomato, and mozzarella panini was delicious and filling. Try the pizza there are so many to choose from. We had the margherita pizza. It was fantastic. It was hot and made to perfection.

    We all thoroughly enjoyed the tiramisu and the cappuccino. It was great way to end a perfect meal.

    Overall service was very good and our enthusiastic waitress was helpful, pleasant and spoke good English.

    Another positive note is they don’t add cover charges and service charges to the bill. As you may know it seems to be a common practice in Italy. After a while, you feel like everyone is trying to rip you off and it gets a bit tiring.

    Having had a good lunch experience we decided to visit again for breakfast. Coffee was fresh and hot, and our croissants were tasty and fresh. Again the service was friendly and sweet.

    Cafe Duomo is a friendly place with an excellent view of the Duomo at a very reasonable place, what more could you ask for? I will go back one day.  I recommend coming here.[/tab]

    Acqua al 2 is literally a stones throw from the Duomo. The restaurant is a bit small however the food is terrific and the ambience can’t be beat. Acqua al 2 is decorated with plates signed by celebrities from around all over the world. When you do sit down at your table you will notice the restaurant is full with fellow travelers and local Florentines. The tables are on the close side to each other but it adds to the experience. It also gives you the opportunity to check out what everyone else is eating.

    I suggest having their pasta sampler for an appetizer and blueberry steak as an entrée. Both were out of this world. The pasta sampler that is five small portions brought out one at a time. They all have different type of pasta and sauce. Each was better then the last. They cook the steaks medium rare and they are nice and juicy. The blueberry sauce is remarkable. The sauces on steaks (blueberry, peppercorn, balsamic) sound a little strange but when put together it is amazing. My son also had the pasta sampler and steak with the balsamic sauce and he said it was the best steak he had in Florence. My wife and daughter shared two salad samplers. Each one was very different and both were excellent. For her second dish, my daughter loved the cannelloni with mascarpone cheese and mushrooms. My wife said the chicken with the port-wine reduction was divine, and is real hidden gem on a great menu. The house Chianti is also great and reasonably priced. We finished by sharing the dessert sampler; it had four different amazing desserts.

    The one problem is that they don’t provide an English menu, so you might have a hard time placing an order. Luckily our waiter spoke English. He was very pleasant and most helpful when we ordered our meal.

    Acqua al 2 is very reasonable priced for the great quality of the food. When we revisit Florence, we will definitely return to Acqua al 2. I highly recommend it. Make sure you make reservations or you will be standing in the street looking in.[/tab]

    1. Original Florence Walk: 9.15am Monday-Saturday throughout March-November (plus Sundays* May-October).
       2. Masterpieces of Uffizi Tour: 1.30pm Tuesday-Saturday throughout March-November (plus Sundays* May-October).
    3. Original David Tour: 4.45pm Tuesday-Saturday throughout March-November (plus Sundays* May-October). 

    (* except on 1st Sunday of each month when museums are free and it is not possible to pre-reserve entry)

    Notes:  Knees and shoulders must be covered for entrance into churches. Large bags/backpacks are not permitted in museums. *All persons under 17 must present valid ID showing date of birth for entry into museums or full adult price will be charged.
