Cat Sanctuary Rome
Largo di Torre Argentina
For all Feline lovers; this will be the highlight of the trip! Children will love it! Furry feline friends; playing, hiding and hanging out between the ruins of ancient Rome. The cracks and holes have a long in years always given shelter to these homeless animals. Cat Sanctuary Rome is the perfect hide-out, and then it is one of the oldest temples in Rome! Largo Argentina used to be the old Senate and it is also the pace where Cesar was killed.
Stroll in between the ruins with your kids and have a close look at the beautiful cats. From the street, you can take the stairs down to the volunteer’s office where the gift shop is also located and visit some of the cats in person. You may also take a tour of the area dedicated to their disabled animals.
A group of international volunteers see to it that the cats get taken care of seven days a week. It is possible to adopt a cat from a distance at a cost of only Euro 15.00/month or make a real adoption and take the cat with you. Some cats have physical handicaps and they need to be taken care of by the veterinarian, others have been abandoned from their families, lost or mistreated.
I’d advise you to go on their site and have a look on their history page of how all of this started and the difficulties they had to go through…it is extremely interesting!
Torre Argentina also has a cat shop where you can purchase lovely bags, pot holders, aprons, t-shirt and my favorite article; the Roman cat calendar. Needless to say, by purchasing these articles, which will make great useful souvenirs, you will sustain the volunteer work and help cover the cost of food and maintenance.
