Restaurants Near The Doges Palace Venice
Rossopomodoro
A three minute walk from The Doges Palace.
Great modern restaurant with a terrific menu. It is pretty big, with a huge seating area upstairs and outside. In the back, there is a nice bar area with more tables. If you just want to grab and go, there is an open area that serves terrific pizza and paninis. Inside the restaurant, the pasta dishes do not disappoint. They are homemade, and cooked just right with fresh sauces. Fried calamari is crunchy and light. They have some wonderful inexpensive wine and house draft beer. The wait staff is great, fast and very friendly. The staff speak par English. Decent prices for being in Venice (like many other places they also apply 2 euros a person service charge). Very popular, always busy and many locals dine here. It is definitely worth stopping by for a bite if you are in the area. It's perfect for lunch or a casual night out.

Dal Moro's - Fresh Pasta To Go
Dal Moro's is terrific place if you're in a hurry (or not), as they only serve to-go. The pastas are served in a box, similar to a Chinese-food-type container. The pastas are fresh and delicious. They offer several different types of fresh pasta, and about ten types of sauce. Plus add-ins (cheese, meats, olives, etc.). Don't let the long lines scare you away, it moves quickly and it's worth the wait. Very good prices (ranging from 5 - 7 Euros), big portions, and superb quality. Very friendly staff, speak several languages. Perfect for a quick lunch. Find a bench next to a nice quiet bridge, and watch as gondoliers maneuver their way through the narrow canals. (sitting and eating on bridges is illegal and carries a huge fine) They are not located on the typical tourist paths. It's tucked away in an narrow alley. So definitely get yourself a good map. Give it a try, you won't regret it.

Harry's Bar
A four minute walk from The Doges Palace.
Harry's Bar is a classic restaurant, famous in Italy. It has been the watering hole of the rich, famous since the '30's. It is a place where Hemingway was once know to hangout. It is also home to the "original" Bellini (Prosecco and white peach juice). Very relaxed atmosphere, traditional interior. They have small bar downstairs and a small dining area upstairs. Service is outstanding (waiters in white jackets). The food and drinks are both fantastic. There is a dress code after 6:00 pm, when no shorts are allowed. Food and drinks are are very steep. However, it's worth just going to take in the atmosphere and have a Bellini.

Happy Pizza
A five minute walk from The Doges Palace.
Pizza is very good, with exceptionally fresh toppings. They offer pizza by the slice, calzones, paninis and wraps. Also, a great selection of wine. No tables to sit. However, there are a couple of high tables that you can stand at. Very reasonable prices (for Venice). Lovely friendly staff, and speak very good English. It is a perfect place for a quick and light lunch, or snack between sights.

Caffe Lavena
A two minute walk from The Doges Palace.
Caffe Lavena is a typical Venetian cafe, situated in the huge St. Mark's Square. It is an excellent location to take in the amazing views of the iconic and historic landmark structures. They do offer delicious food and wonderful coffee. Everything is beautifully presented. All served by charming waiters. Staff speak excellent English, and dressed in white tuxes. The decor is stunning. Like most other places nearby, it can be quite expensive. The best two things is the ambiance and the live music (musicians performing the classics). However, they include the price of listening to music in their bill (it is mentioned on the menu). Still a lovely break where you can enjoy some people-watching, while having a lite lunch, cappuccino or even some gelato.

La Mela Verde Excellent Gelato in Venice
A five minute walk from The Doges Palace.
La Mela Verde offers a great taste of Italian gelato. The gelato is creamy and rich, with tons of flavor. They feature different flavors every day. Which includes sour apple, chocolate, licorice, pistachio, pear, eggnog. Fruit flavors are bright and even have pieces of fruit inside. Try the lemon-mint-basil gelato. It is fantastic and very refreshing, especially on a hot day. Green Apple (Mela Verde) is also a very popular choice. It is light and juicy and captures the real essence of an apple. Not at all expensive. And you get great service, from the friendly staff (also speak good English). The line is long, but it moves rather quickly. There is no place to sit. Do not miss this place, a must on anyone's travel itinerary.

Osteria alle Testiere
A five minute walk from The Doges Palace.
Simple decor and a small cozy place, with seating for about 20 people (tables are very close to one another). Seafood dominates the menu, depending entirely on what is available at the market that day. Each meal is incredibly fresh, and prepared perfectly. Light and flavorful, highlighting the fresh ingredients. Best dishes are mixed seafood for two. Grilled razor clams, they are grilled gently. Then drizzled with the olive oil, and a little bit of salt and pepper. Oysters are incredibly fresh, and only served with a bit of salt water. Ravioli with sword fish sauce. They have a terrific selection of wines by the glass, and a wonderful bottle list as well. If you have any room left over, desserts are heavenly. The wait staff are all very friendly and knowledgeable. They speak excellent English, ensuring all your requests. I would definitely recommend to anyone coming to Venice. If you're not a fan of seafood, this isn't the place for you (pretty much all they serve). Reservations are a must, so plan ahead. Without them, you will be turned away. There are two sittings, 7: 00 pm and 9.30: pm. As for price, it's a bit pricey, but well worth it.
